This section entails major topics that are frequently discussed under international relations. From realist perspectives on the incitement of armed conflicts, to criticisms of global governance - you will be able to gain a better understanding of the interactions between states and non-state actors, strategies of American Presidential Doctrines, and power shifts in the global arena.

Global Governance

It can be understood as a framework of institutions, rules and norms that facilitate cooperation among countries and other actors.
Its ultimate objective is to address global challenges that transcend national borders and require collective solutions. Our featured articles present the barriers that obstruct efforts to effectively practice global governance, and evaluate on whether institutions may efficaciously serve the aforementioned purposes with its operative frameworks.

US Foreign Policy

Since the end of World War II, the United States has adopted a grand strategy, characterized as being oriented around primacy, "deep engagement", and/or liberal hegemony. With the rise of China as a global power and the US' evolving interests in other continents and states, we analyze the trajectory of US foreign policy and its effects on other states and non-state actors, discussing its effectiveness in fulfilling its objectives.

Power Politics

Known colloquially as "balance of power", the rise of China as a global superpower and its strategic alliance with Russia against American hegemony paved the way for the development of international relations, border disputes and the expansion and creation of alliances and blocs. We analyze the relations of the 3 major powers in relation to power dynamics and allyship with other emerging and/or developing states.

Conflict & Colonialism

This section addresses a variety of military, economic and cultural disputes between states and/or non-state actors - war, displacement, post-colonial trauma, sanctions, terrorism, nuclear threats etc. Issues are categorized by the continents in which these issues take place in, followed by an in-depth analysis of its conflicts - addressing historical factors, root causes, and external actors that determine the state of these problems.

Africa

Africa comes second in the number of armed conflicts per region with more than 35 non-international armed conflicts taking place in various countries. As a continent with abundant resources and an extensive colonial history, Africa has been plagued by conflict for centuries, often involving oppression by foreign powers.

Asia & the Middle East

The Middle East, Central and Southeast Asia are hotspots for conflict and rampant terrorism. Given its strategic geographical location, various external actors are often involved in conflicts that take place in the continent, be it a proxy war or guerilla warfare.

Latin America

Drug warfare, gang violence, and hygiene problems are some of the most prevalent issues within the region. The effects of armed conflict on social and political institutions, as well as many ongoing development challenges, are widely visible across the continent.

Europe

The outbreak of the Russo-Ukrainian war, the recent rise of far-right populists, and the migrant and energy crisis has brought a series of challenges to countries in both Eastern and Western Europe. The European Union also plays a crucial role in conflict resolution and avidly promotes values of the Westphalian system.
